   Burlap gives a nice rustic look to weddings and occasions and is used for a lot of decoration options. Most of the times, we want burlap of the correct size cut as per our requirements and don’t really want the burlap to have fuzzy edges or threads coming out of it. Burlap cloth cut to lengths as required by us is available on a lot of online sites, which give us flexible options for decorating venues.

You are quite right with the chair ties and the need to choose the right burlap, as it can get quite uncomfortable and itchy if you use the wrong burlap fabric. We generally recommend the 4 or 6-inch burlap strips for the same as they look pretty elegant and remain popular amongst a lot of our clients who choose the same.

As far as burlap runners is concerned, the width of the runner cloth depends on the width of the table and it generally varies between 12-27 inches. You will have to order as per your table specifications.

We also do sell burlap for gardening purposes and most customers use the 7or 10 inch burlap for the same. Those who use burlap for construction purposes, use the 10 inch variety.

Folding and cutting area is open longer hours but is not open to  the public, as they are work areas and visible from the showroom area

We have 2 double folding machines running, both over 60 years old  that will enthrall the visitor with their engineering.

Full pieces are available for pick up during business hours. Cuts and short ends are available but arrangement must be made in advance and are for sale depending on availability

The warehouse is close to Yorkdale Mall  & the Orfus Road shopping area both known landmarks in Toronto, Public transit serves this area well the TTC has buses running from Yorkdale and the intersection of Lawrence ave. West and Caledonia. The 47 bus line serves both routes. The Bus stop is actually 60 seconds from our door.

Burlap aisle runners

The Burlap aisle runner was made of the 40 inch wide burlap. Just received this picture looks like summer though. Well better late than never. I guess.they had a long honeymoon.

Ninety percent of  our rustic wedding customers buy the burlap for table cloths and runners. Very rarely have i heard of them buying it for aisle runner, so I asked them to send me pictures. And here it is. It seems that they just laid the fabric on the ground no underlay or anchoring. looks like it worked just fine. I think they folded it over to give it a semi neat look.

If the ground is hard and not wet, I guess it makes sense. See in the center the fold. Perhaps they ran out of  jute, and then just laid the the new roll over the old roll. and it looks continuous.  I will ask to see what other innovative items they made with the burlap and share with our customers. Being a cost-effective material, nobody should have any qualms about putting the burlap straight onto the ground, even if it will get wet and potentially ruined. Also, the natural look and feel of the burlap seems to mesh quite intuitively with the grass and outdoors. Unlike a fancy red carpet which will seem out of place at an outdoor wedding (not too mention be much more expensive and probably completely ruined afterwards), the burlap will fit in with the theme of the wedding and fit in with the budget too.

First see the original rolls , this customer took elven rolls of about 40 meters each.

I always assumed that the customer would go out and cut and sew the individual table cloths. Look closely at the pictures and you will see that all she did was lay out the 40" fabric, overlaying it in the center and leaving the  natural selvage edges on the side.
As the tables were 48 inches wide our 60 inch burlap would not have worked, should you have a 40 inch or less table you can use our 60 inch wide fabric with no edges at all showing in the middle and keep the outside edges natural.

The center of the table is covered by serving pieces so the edges  that lie on the table are not that obvious.

Burlap Smell - How to Get Rid of Natural Burlap Smell

Burlap for rustic weddings was originally intended to be used, outdoors in barns in farm settings or in open air tents. Currently rustic weddings are celebrated indoors and in formal catering halls, as a result some event planners, florists celebrants and florists are concerned

Burlap, being a natural, organic material sometimes has a smell or slight odor to it. Since is is stored in plastic for shipping and packaging, this smell can be stronger on the initial opening of the package. We get called about this issue maybe once a year or so with customers who are concerned that the smell may be toxic. Rest assured, the fabric is completely natural (i.e. nothing you wouldn't smell on a farm).

If you do a quick Goggle search on the web, you will encounter numerous suggestions on how to remove the natural burlap smell. You will find some sites suggest that you use Febreeze or other de-oderant type product. I am not a big fan of this solution as I don't think that's really a good way to get rid of the smell (where does the smell go??). Other solutions will suggest that you put it in the washing machine. I would be hesitant to wash the material as it can shed a little and may make a mess.

My suggestion is very simple: air out the burlap for a few days outside. This should get rid of most of the smell. If you are using it for a wedding, wipe it down with a damp cloth (no soaps necessary) in case the smell is not completely gone. As a last resort, a little bit of Febreeze won't hurt, but that should only be used in case you are very sensitive to the smell. The natural odor or burlap should not stop you from enjoying its benefit in a rustic wedding environment.

Great year for Burlap Sales

We had a great year this year, with Burlap sales really picking up quite a bit. The big winners this year were wedding burlap for rusting weddings, construction burlap and gardening burlap. Hoping for an even bigger year next year!

60" Wide Burlap

We recently started carrying the 60" wide burlap and have been pleasantly surprised at the success it has had in the early stages. After carrying only the 40" wide burlap for the last 30 years, the 60" wide burlap is now outperforming the 40" by a wide margin. It appears we have unlocked sales that we weren't previously getting which is a great thing these days.

I am a little curious as to why the 60" is more popular than the 40" and will have to ask a few customers who walk in and pick it up (about half the customers pick the stuff up instead of shipping it out). It's always good to dialogue with customers and hear what they have to say. Perhaps we should start carrying the 72" wide burlap as well?
